Text Box: Welcome to the March 2007 newsletter.

WOW, we have the first club day of ‘07 out of the way and it turned out to be an awesome day with a huge turnout, some great racing, and a perfect track surface thanks to  overnight rain.

We were a bit late getting the sign on’s and scrutineering completed but fortunately almost everybody that presented got a start including some late membership riders. All the senior classes were well represented with the new senior lites race almost full, a great result. We had a total of 181 riders competing.  All our regular and hardworking race officials and helpers saw the meeting run without hiccup and finish 10 minutes before curfew. All those involved put in a huge effort and the end result was definitely worth it.

Most of the positive feedback we got was about the track and facilities. The mulch and sand that has been mixed into the surface has definitely improved the nature of the track with improved traction and also better water retention.  The track changes we have made over the past few months have also eliminated most of the areas that became flooded and boggy and the design of the obstacles has helped prevent the surface from degrading too much during the day. These changes have resulted in a safer track and less incidents during the course of the day. Many thanks to Steve Freiberg and the track committee for their work in this area, their experience and expertise has definitely paid off.

We also had a huge turnout for the working bees on 27th January and Sat 10 th Feb. Many hands make light work and the pit and paddock areas were quickly cleaned up. Some extra work was completed around the start line and dummy grid areas and the usual preparation work was completed in the canteen, toilets and sign on areas. Thanks to everyone who sacrificed their Saturday morning for the cause. The biggest project however was out on the track where Harry Bosboom and his apprentice spray painters managed to whitewash all the tyre walls within a matter of a few hours.  This was a mammoth effort and the result was a visual impact not seen before at Stanmore. VERY COOL.
